I've been thinking a lot about the supposed "smarthome harmony" we're all striving for,and I'm starting to wonder if we're trading convenience for security. It truly seems like the more devices we connect and automate, the more potential vulnerabilities we introduce.
Like, think about it. Each smart bulb, smart lock, smart thermostat, etc. is basically another mini-computer connected to your network. How many of us really keep the firmware updated on all of those things? and even if we do, are we truly aware of what data they're collecting and how securely it's being stored? I'm not saying we should all throw our smart devices in the trash, but I think it's a valid concern that the ease of centralized control offered by smarthome ecosystems might actually create a single point of failure for our entire home security.
anyone else feeling uneasy about this,or am I just being overly paranoid? What steps are you taking (if any) to mitigate the security risks of a connected home?
