I've been trying out PawsitiveHabitsHub, a system focusing on canine well-being through positive reinforcement and enrichment, for a few months now. I'm seeing real improvements in my dog's anxiety and overall happiness. However, I've been getting some serious side-eye and even direct criticism from other dog owners who use more conventional, aversive methods.
It's frustrating. I understand that people raise their dogs differently, but the judgment feels really unfair, especially since I'm seeing such positive results. They'll comment on things like "spoiling" my dog with too many treats during training or letting him have too much "freedom" during walks (he's on a long leash and I maintain control!). They compare it to their own methods, ofen involving corrections or even punishments I'm actively trying to avoid.
Has anyone else experienced this kind of thing when choosing a less conventional approach to dog training or care? How do you deal with it? I want to stay true to my values and what works for my dog, but the constant negativity is wearing me down. Is there a way to effectively explain the principles behind positive reinforcement without coming across as preachy or judgmental myself? I just want what's best for my pup, and it's disheartening to feel like I'm being judged for it.
