I keep seeing more posts adn comments complaining about cyclists using sidewalks, and I'm curious what the general consensus is.While I understand it's frequently enough technically illegal and can be hazardous for pedestrians, are there situations where it's more understandable?
For example, would you be more lenient towards a cyclist briefly using the sidewalk to avoid a dangerous road obstruction like a construction zone with no bike lane? Or what about parents cycling slowly with young children still learning to ride? It truly seems like blanket condemning all sidewalk cycling ignores the complexities of different situations and the varying levels of risk involved.
Obviously, cyclists have a duty to be considerate and yield to pedestrians, but I wonder if the outrage is sometimes disproportionate. What are your thoughts?
