Anyone else run into this? It's incredibly frustrating trying to get into collecting vintage toys, particularly when experienced collectors act like you need a PhD in action figure history just to participate. I recently asked a simple question in an online forum about identifying a particular line of figures from the 80s,and rather of helpful advice,I got a lecture on how my terminology was "wrong" and how I clearly hadn't "done my research."
It feels like some people forget they were beginners once. It’s discouraging, especially when you're genuinely eager and just trying to learn. Are there others who feel like the barrier to entry in certain collecting communities is unnecessarily high because of this kind of behavior? Is it just me, or is this gatekeeping pretty prevalent in the vintage toy world? Makes you almost want to stick to collecting rubber ducks where the stakes are lower!
