I've been thinking a lot about what truly qualifies a toy as "vintage." is it simply age? Does something from the early 2000s qualify now, or are we strictly talking things from the 80s and earlier? I see a lot of debate, and it seems like some people emphasize build quality and materials. Such as, older die-cast metal toys are often considered more "vintage" than plastic toys from the same era, even if both are technically old.
Then there’s the question of rarity and desirability. A common McDonald's Happy Meal toy from 1995 probably isn't considered vintage by most, even though it's technically getting there in age. But a rare,limited-edition action figure from the 80s? Definitely. it seems like scarcity and collector interest play a big part.
Ultimately, I'm curious to hear other people's thoughts. What are your criteria? Is it purely based on a specific timeframe, or are there other factors that you consider when deciding if a toy is truly "vintage"? I'd love to hear some different perspectives on this!
