Is it just me, or is it becoming ridiculously hard to find a decent tech repair shop these days? It feels like they're vanishing faster than headphone jacks. I remember a time when every other storefront was some guy fixing computers and phones, but now itS all trendy cafes and vape stores.
Seriously, what happened? Is it just that devices are becoming more disposable and less repairable by design? Are manufacturers actively discouraging repair with proprietary parts and software locks? I'm getting increasingly frustrated with the idea of having to replace a perfectly good laptop or phone just because of a cracked screen or a faulty battery.Paying a premium price for something that's practically glued together and unfeasible for anyone but the manufacturer to fix seems incredibly wasteful.
It makes me wonder if we need some kind of "right to repair" legislation to force manufacturers to provide parts and instructions to autonomous repair shops and consumers. Or else, we're going to end up in a world where only the wealthy can afford to keep thier tech working, and e-waste will continue to pile up. Anyone else feeling this way?
