Figured I'd start a thread about a common problem a lot of us encounter: circuit overheating. It can be surprisingly tricky to diagnose sometiems. Beyond the obvious (drawing too much current), what are some of the less-obvious culprits you've run into?
I once spent ages troubleshooting an overheating issue only to find out it was a slightly loose connection causing increased resistance. That resistance, of course, was generating heat. Another time, it was simply inadequate ventilation around a small voltage regulator in an enclosure.
What are some of your experiences? Any specific components that seem notably sensitive to overheating if not properly managed? Any good rules of thumb you follow when tracking down these kinds of issues? Let's share some knowledge!
