I think some vintage tech gets way more hype than it deserves, honestly. we romanticize the past, and for some pieces of tech, that's fair. They were truly revolutionary. But other times, it feels like nostalgia goggles are glued on tight.
Take vintage portable music players, for instance. Sure, holding a big clunky player and a physical album is cool, but the sound quality can be objectively worse than modern digital audio. Plus, the skipping! I get the appeal of owning a piece of history, but sometimes it feels like people are paying a premium for something that's less functional and practical than what we have today. Are we collecting functional art, or just expensive dust collectors? Is the appeal purely aesthetic or are people genuinely finding them superior for specific uses? I'm curious to hear other people's thoughts.
