Seriously, what is the deal with luggage zippers? You pack carefully, maybe even use packing cubes to compress things, but than BAM! The zipper splits open at the airport, or worse, mid-trip. It always seems to happen when the bag isn't even that full.
I suspect a couple of things contribute. One is definitely cheap materials. you'd think for the price of some suitcases they could spring for a decent zipper. I've had better luck with zippers on $20 backpacks than on some expensive carry-ons. Secondly, I wonder if it's just the strain we put on them. Between stuffing luggage racks on trains and the rough handling at airports, those zippers are under constant pressure.
Anyone have tips on preventing zipper blowouts, or just commiserate with me? Maybe some brands known for having tougher zippers? I'm tired of living in fear of exploding luggage.
