I'm curious what people's thoughts are on hard-shell versus fabric luggage, specifically focusing on security. Intuitively, a hard-shell seems tougher adn less vulnerable to swift slashing or forced entry. But I've also seen videos of them cracking under pressure, and a broken zipper on a fabric bag seems easier to repair on the go than a shattered hard case.

Does the type of closure (zipper quality, integrated locks) matter more than the shell material itself? I've seen some fabric bags with incredibly robust zippers and locking mechanisms, while some cheaper hard-shell cases seem pretty flimsy.

Also, are there specific security concerns for each type? Such as, is it easier to conceal the opening of a fabric bag to pilfer items when it's jammed in an overhead bin, compared to a hard-shell? Or vice versa? Just trying to weigh the pros and cons before my next trip.
