I've noticed a certain attitude within some cycling communities, notably online, where "serious" cyclists seem to look down on people who just ride for fun or transportation. Like, if you're not decked out in spandex, tracking your cadence and power output, or discussing the merits of different carbon fiber frames, you're somehow less of a "real" cyclist.I'm curious if others have experienced this and what your thoughts are on it. Is it simply passion expressed a bit strongly, or does it veer into elitism? I get that there's a difference between a casual rider and someone training for a race, but does that difference justify the condescending attitudes I sometimes see? It seems counterproductive to growing the sport/hobby and making it more inclusive. It shouldn't matter if you're on a vintage Schwinn cruising to the park or a top-of-the-line road bike tackling a mountain pass – we're all just trying to enjoy being on two wheels, right? What are your perspectives? have you felt judged for your gear, your pace, or your riding style?
